Full Moon Ritual- Letting Go

This is a ritual to practice for the night of the full moon: To rid oneself of unwanted energies, emotional pain, and negative people, cycles, and/or habits.

The full moon has heavy power.  It is the time to release and let go of things you don’t want in your life anymore.  This can be emotional, physical, and spiritual.  It’s the time to release and cut away so that you have space in your life to bring things in that you do want. (that’s for the new moon).  Shed the layers of yourself that you're working on and release! 

Sometimes you have to let go first to make space for what you want in your life. This work will help you let go of past injustices, heartache, & unwanted energies from others around you.  It can also help you move forward from an old cycle, habit, or heartache. This is the time to release and let go.

The Ceremony

Things To Gather:

  1. yellow, pink or red candle (if you don’t have one then use any candle on hand)

  2. writing tools: pen and paper

  3. smudge stick- cedar, sage, juniper are all good

  4. a quiet space and privacy for 1 hour

step 1: 
Take a shower or bath - this is for body clearing:  put on something clean afterwards.

Step 2:
Find a quiet area where you won’t be disturbed. Place the candle and your writing material in that space and begin thinking about your intentions for this ceremony.  Think about what you want to let go of and what you want your life to look like without it/him/her.

Step 3:
As you start to think about your intentions, light the candle and smudge the area and yourself. continue thinking about your intentions, no need for a ton of detail, just overall feeling.

Step 4: 
Sit down comfortably. Close your eyes.  Find yourself breathing and follow your natural breathe. Do this for a few minutes, give yourself a moment to just watch your natural breathing without focusing on the next step. If a timer helps you relax, set a timer for 5 minutes.  When you notice your mind is lost in thought bring your focus back to your breathe. 

Step 5:
Again, bring to mind your intentions. make a list of everything you want to let go of and be rid of in your life right now in detail. Even if it’s not in your control, write down the who’s, the what’s the why’s. don’t worry about the how.  Now make a list of all of the feelings that this has brought up surrounding this.  

Step 6:
When you are finished writing:  Bring all of what was brought up to mind and imagine letting all of it go.  imagine letting go of the feelings. Imagine releasing the feelings.  Imagine your life without the pain, the stress. 

**quick note - It’s important not to be wishing harm or thinking badly about anyone or thing at this time. If you find yourself slipping in that direction, bring yourself back to just releasing your own feelings surrounding it. 

As your imagining - burn the paper with the candle.  Do it in your fireplace or sink if your worried about a fire. Let the entire thing burn.  As it dissolves away into the air, continue to imagine a life without any of what you have written down on that paper.  You can think of a bright white liquid light filling your body. Starting with your heart and expanding out until it is seeping out of you. You can think about feeling weightless.  

Step 7: 
Once the paper has burned. Open a nearby window or door. Release the energy out into the open air.  Imagine it dissolving into the air without harming anyone.

Step 8:
Now that you have released the energy.  Think about all beings in the world and hold the wish that they too be free from the things that are causing them pain or holding them back.  Let go of that thought and just sit for a minute or two. Close the ceremony by acknowledging the elements; water, fire, air, earth.

 Look at how you feel. Notice any subtle shifts in mind set.  It’s good to have a journal and write down for the next two weeks any thoughts feelings or moments that you find have any subtle shifts to them.

Step 9:
This is one of the most important steps!  for the next 2 weeks (until the new moon) It is important to do 2 things everyday.

  1. When the same emotional patterns surround what you are trying to release come up- release them again and again. Just imagine them floating out the window and dissolving.

  2. Take a few minutes and imagine yourself truly happy. Imagine the feeling you have, imagine being loved and loving. AND If this involves a person: Take the nextmoment to imagine them truly happy.-laughing, clear minded, loved and loving. Make that wish for them. This may be very difficult and you may not be able to do it very easily... but try for 2 minutes everyday. This is a huge part of the releasing!
